What better way to holiday than to hit the slopes. Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, about 5.5 hrs drive from Sydney, offers a range of choices for the snow enthusiasts in the country and over seas. The resorts like Perisher, Thredbo and Charlotte Pass offer a retreat to both the adventure lovers and the easy-going alike!
A few people think that holidaying on snow is for the ski or snow boarding experts. So we at Stills360 decided to explore the snow region a bit more to find out what it has to offer to the snow lovers and the newbies! Thanks to our friends at Perisher we got to see round the resort and the facilities that it has to offer!
When you hear the word snow, the first thing that comes to mind is skiing or snow-boarding! And yeap Perisher has a lot to offer for skiers and snow-boarders! Apart from the runs and lifts they also have cross country skiing for the more classic enthusiasts!
If you are a newbie and are a snow enthusiast wanting to build up your skills in skiing or snow boarding, Perisher has snow sports school that runs both the group and private lessons!
The lessons proved to be super useful to us as we built our skills and more importantly we took private lessons. We got the best attention we needed. The instructor was looking at our technique and correcting us and also took us along on different slopes. Was totally worth it and we were super confident by the end of the session!
Even better there are separate lessons for kids too and kids as young as 2 yrs old can take these lessons.
And you have a loved little one that is too young or scared for lessons you can drop them off in the onsite day care while you explore the mountains!
For nature admirers, there is a lot that snowy mountains has to offer! You can get your snow skills up and running without the flowing of adrenaline juices by snow shoeing! There are many operators in the region who run these tours. They provide the equipment like the snow shoes and you are with an experienced operator who knows the mountains well that they can take to you some beautiful spots! I definitely recommend Blue Cow for snow shoeing! It is one beautiful place that you cannot miss! And while you do the activity you can also have a nice sip of coffee or tea. There are also chair lifts for sightseeing at Perisher.
And if you are into photography then you can get some best shots around in the national park during sunrise and also the shots of the iced rocks and the ice plants!
If you are in no mood for any of the above, you can do what I did for a day, just get a nice book and while sipping hot chocolate, enjoying the views and the book, one of the best relaxing days I have had in a long time! And my favorite place for this is the Blue Cow cafe!
PS: You dont need a a standard/full lift pass for many activities. Always enquire in the office and tell the friendly staff what exactly you will be doing and for how long and at what time of the day. Depending upon that the staff can suggest a standard/beginner/half day lift pass! Saves a lot of money!
